Hilden Oaks School New Education Building in woodland setting

The Tonbridge Civic Society Design Panel awarded Silver Jetty with the Best Design award for this project

Hilden Oaks school is highly regarded by parents in Tonbridge and we were approached to optimise and extend one of the existing brick buildings to create two new classrooms, a pastoral room, new boys and girls toilets, an office and storage functions. The building is located tight to the school boundary and to trees and a children’s play area. The design solution embraced lightweight construction techniques to enable the build to take place in a confined area. The timber cladding extends into a decorative screen to “bind” the old and new, while creating a playful elevation edge to the play area.
